520 _a"The work is a painterly commentary on rural Ireland and Irish culture. The seasonal population disruption that occurs within these areas creates a melodrama in the landscape, which is an interesting subject to engage with. Finding resolution in oil paint, I aim to emulate feelings of nostalgia and melancholy through gestural emotive paintings depicting the rural Irish landscape. By documenting these picturesque moments, it creates a direct visual link to the past, recording houses, rural roads and landscape through paint, capturing a standstill moment in time. Landscape, due to weather, time, and varying seasons, can never appear the exact same way twice. The transient nature of light plays an important role in selecting the rural landscapes. I wish to explore the duality of nature, as well as the duality of these rural seasonal areas. The paintings intend to convey a moment or sensation, an initial impact and sense of place" - artist's statement.
