The film is loosely based on the book Satyricon by Gaius Petronius Arbiter, the "Arbiter of Elegance" in the court of Nero.

An adaptation of the Petronius classic recreating the bawdy and lecherous days of Nero's reign in ancient Rome. It is also an allegorical satire of the self-indulgence of modern history.
