Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

With their impact upon people's lives and exchanges among nations, communications satellite systems have totally altered the patterns of world communications. The new capabilities of the space shuttle and Ariane systems presages continued growth and development in satellite technology. This book analyzes the different parts of a communication and satellite system, demonstrating how they interact with each other. It attempts to synthesize information gleaned from the numerous technical papers published in the last few years. Contains many up-to-date references at the end of each chapter, plus a glossary of terms.

Includes bibliographical references and index.

CHOICE Review

In this revised and updated version of J. Pares and V. Toscer's Les Systemes de Telecommunications par Satellites (Paris, 1975), Maral and Bousquet have maintained the initial organization while updating the material with original contributions for this English version. The stated objective of the book is to provide a broad overview of the subject, and to serve as a practical handbook. This is accomplished in several chapters that deal with communication techniques, satellite networks, geometrical considerations of orbits, space environmental effects, satellite mechanical and electrical subsystems, and earth station technologies. Each chapter contains clear explanations, worked-out example problems, useful pertinent tables, and an extensive list of references. Four appendixes and a well-organized index add to the usefulness of the book. For college and university engineering collections.-T.J. Jones, formerly Trinity University
