CHOICE Review

In this welcome study on a rather neglected topic, Branwhite highlights his own survey questionnaire data on helping adolescent students in the UK. His largely descriptive treatment is presented in evenhanded fashion. Branwhite likewise summarizes the research literature in a balanced, straightforward way, showing, importantly, the need for more emphasis on personal counseling on the part of school personnel. He also includes salient findings on support from teachers, counselors, parents, peers, and friends. Less fortunate, however, is the relative dearth of interpretive, normative, and critical perspectives in his overall analysis. His conclusions, nevertheless, point toward future directions more closely attuned to fine tuning school delivery systems to meet the real needs of teenagers. J. L. DeVitis; SUNY at Binghamton
