CHOICE Review

This handbook is really an atlas of all the essential information an industrial designer or engineer needs on the performance of tribological components. If a part moves, it is covered by this book. Bearings, drives, gears, clutches, screws, cams, pistons, cables, seals, lubricants, environmental problems, failure analysis, maintenance, and repair are all treated. Basic information is also provided on hardness, friction, viscosity, heat dissipation, and the mechanics of wear. Many tables, charts, graphs, and drawings are included, on almost every page, to make the presentations very easy to understand. The arrangement provides instant access to any topic, without having to dig through unrelated material. Neale has edited several other books that cover portions of this subject but this one ties the whole field together. Good update of the first edition (1975). Upper-division undergraduates through professionals. J. P. Neville emeritus, Wentworth Institute of Technology
