<br/><br/> Five poems by Hamish Maclaren from his collection Sailor with Banjo, published by the Macmillan Company in New York in 1930. Much of the edition was destroyed in a warehouse fire. Several poems appeared in the sixties in Ian Hamilon Finlay's Poor. Old. Tired. Horse. Maclaren subtitles his book 'Entertainment in Rhyme and Song  and these rare poems steeped in ocean lore and eulogizing the life of seafarers indeed read like the lyrics to ballads.
