Booklist Review

The man behind Glorious Knits (Booklist 82:604 D 15 85) will keep his numerous fans up to their necks in stitchery with this new volume of needlepoint ideas and projects. Fassett's designs are original and beautiful interpretations of subjects that range from homely cabbages and lichens to intricate patchwork and mosaic effects. Indeed, one of this volume's distinctions is the author's account of how he is inspired by ordinary objects and how he works out the practical problems of these creative moments to produce the actual design. The key to Fassett's work lies in his marvelous sense of color, and he encourages his readers to experiment on their own using his designs as starting points; for the less adventuresome, a listing of needlepoint kits is included. One warning, however: the brilliant photographs of these needlepoint creations are so colorful-and, yes, glorious-that some readers may be tempted to get right to work without realizing just how complicated and labor intensive some of these projects might become. The limited coverage of needlepoint basics will be of some help here, but additional aid may be needed by beginners. Appendixes of yarn and kit information; index.
