There is no way to overestimate the contribution of Ingham and Covey to costumers since they published The Costumer's Handbook in 1980. A decade-plus later, it was split into two volumes, becoming The Costume Designer's Handbook and The Costume Technician's Handbook. In this third edition of the latter, the authors maintain their clear definitions and detailed instructions on standard topics like health, pattern development, and hair and hats. They also update readers on techniques and materials and have added two new chapters vital to the contemporary costume shop. "Managing, Supervising, or Directing the Costume Shop" covers all aspects of shop management, from job descriptions to budgets to day-by-day operations, while "Computers in the Costume Shop" describes the integration of computer technology, including computer-aided design, digital textile printing, and computer pattern drafting. Along with numerous black-and-white drawings and lavish photographs (many of them new), the authors provide extensive appendixes and a 54-page annotated bibliography organized by category.
