Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Written from a multimedia perspective and with a comprehensive system design orientation, this practical guide provides management strategies for developing, implementing, and operating a records management program. Unlike some other records management references, which show a predisposition toward dealing with inactive records, it provides a balanced treatment for all phases of the records life cycle, from creation or receipt through ultimate disposition. Among the changes in this revised edition are the addition of new chapters on record media, active record systems, and records disposition. Distributed by Ashgate. CHOICE Review

The authors, who are experienced in the area of records management, have compiled a publication on records management basics directed toward the practitioner. The result is an amalgamation of records management practices in the US and Britain. Regretfully, the authors have chosen to leave out discussion of micrographics, reprographics, and automated records storage and retrieval. These omissions diminish the publication's usefulness to the practitioner and limit its value as a text for US college students in prelaw or business administration. The use of British terminology for registry systems and archives could also be misleading to the US reader. Yet, the publication is to be lauded for being among the earliest records management publications to devote an entire chapter to disaster planning and recovery. The book's chief value is to graduate students and faculty members at large institutions with strong academic programs in office administration. Recommended for large university libraries supporting international business administration programs. -F. R. Levstik, Kentucky Department for Libraries & Archives
