CHOICE Review

The design of a complex integrated circuit (IC) is currently impossible without correct use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools. This book provides the background and technical details to enable the reader to perform a specific IC design. Chapters 1 through 6 provide an introduction to microelectronic theory, metal-oxide-semiconductors (MOS) and devices, fabrication of silicon ICs, design rules, and other IC technologies. Chapter 7 explains how CAD tools encourage, aid, and reinforce good design practice. The last chapter is a design manual for a gate array design (GATEWAY) exercise, used at the authors' University of Edinburgh since 1982, as part of their students' laboratory and course work.
