Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

The first work to deal exclusively with objective criteria for comparing statistical models. Using a simple framework, it outlines a general strategy for selecting a model and applies this strategy to develop methods useful for solving specific selection problems. Topics covered include histograms, univariate distributions, simple and multiple regression, the analysis of variance and covariance, the analysis of proportions and contingency tables, time series analysis, and spatial analysis.

Includes bibliographical references (pages 283-289) and indexes.

CHOICE Review

This book deals exclusively with objective criteria in selecting between competing statistical models. It is very effective in addressing this subject, but the reader must have a relatively broad statistical background. However, the level of mathematical knowledge required is modest. Many examples of applications are used with special emphasis on simple and multiple regression, univariate distributions, analysis, and analysis of proportions and contingency tables. The authors offer a representative although limited survey of model selection methods, and they deal only with classical statistics, omitting Bayesian methods. Very extensive list of references; a subject and author index; index of criteria. Highly recommended for undergraduate and graduate libraries.-D.J. Gougeon, University of Scranton
