Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

This concise book covers all the critical aspects of environmental sampling and analysis. Extensively peer-reviewed by scientists from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other government agencies, industry and academia, it is packed with practical advice and tips from renowned experts.
Planning, sampling, analysis, QA/QC, and reporting are discussed for air, water, solid liquid, and biological samples, with emphasis on the interdependence between sampling and analytical activities. Special requirements for sampling devices, containers, and preservatives are provided with convenient checklists for sampling plans and protocols.
New and revised recommendations involving method detection levels, reliable detection levels, and levels of quantitation are discussed in conjunction with laboratory reports and user presentations of data near analytical detection limits.
This is a valuable and comprehensive reference book for chemists, technicians, consultants, lawyers, regulators, engineers, quality control officers, news and information managers, teachers, and students.

Includes bibliographical references (p. 121-127) and index.

CHOICE Review

Keith provides a basic understanding of the principles involved in environmental sampling and analysis so that correct and effective societal choices related to environmental issues will be possible. Keith is past chair, Division of Environmental Chemistry, American Chemical Society. Although this small book is divided into two sections, "Environmental Sampling" and "Environmental Analysis," the interrelationship between these two sections is stressed. The first section outlines planning and sampling protocols for water, air, biological matrixes, soils, and sludges. The second part discusses analytical protocols (quality control and assessment, measurement, documentation, and reporting) related to environmental issues. The diagrams, figures, and tables are clear and helpful. An extensive list of up-to-date references and additional sources are included. Valuable for those seeking a clearly written, though somewhat brief, overview of topics related to the measurement and evaluation of environmental data. Graduate level.-H. T. McKone, Saint Joseph College
