Library Journal Review

Stier (sports management/athletic administration, SUNY at Brockport) presents a cornucopia of ideas for fundraising events appropriate for civic clubs, athletic organizations, religious groups, schools, and even Friends of Libraries groups. Ideas are listed in four categories according to the potential amounts of money to be generated and range from car washes and cow drops to fashion shows, house tours, marathon parties, pee wee wrestling matches, and more. Each event listed notes the potential net income, complexity of arranging, scheduling criteria, requisite resources, risk managment, permits or licenses, and hints to make the event successful. There are also notes about games of chance, alcoholic beverages, sales tax, permissions needed, and record keeping. Few other titles pull this type of information together in one place and present it so easily. Recommended for most public and school libraries.-- Scott Johnson, Meridian Community Coll. Lib., Miss.
