CHOICE Review

Although Medlik's book has a definite British slant, the up-to-date tourism and travel vocabulary makes it very useful in academic libraries with programs in hospitality and tourism. It gives complete definitions of terms used in the hospitality industry, including some not defined by similar dictionaries, and complements such sources as Charles J. Metelka's The Dictionary of Hospitality, Travel and Tourism (3rd ed., 1990) and The Travel Dictionary (rev. ed., 1990), by Claudine Dervaes. The typeface is large and readable; terms defined elsewhere in the ditiionary are shown in boldface. Large sections cover tourism organizations in the UK and the international community. As with other travel dictionaries, a section is dedicated to common abbreviations found in the travel industry. Finally, Medlik includes a bibliography of sources that were helpful in creating his dictionary. Certainly this is a useful contribution to the field and valuable for any library with a collection in tourism. D. A. Forro; Michigan State University Libraries
