Booklist Review

This update on machine embroidery takes a commonsensical view of the art. Clucas weighs the needs of the embroiderer as well as the costs and the features of different machines, including those produced by White, Elna, Bernina, Viking, and Pfaff. Most of the text is devoted to stitches. Applique, free embroidery, whip stitch, and quilting are not only explained but are also examined in terms of machinery applications-using the presser foot and other attachments, various fabrics from organza to suede, tensions, and the like. Machine embroidery demands a good design eye, color sense, and knowledge of equipment and materials; this volume well covers those topics in detail. Line drawings and color photographs complete the presentation. Appended: further readings, suppliers, index. BJ. 746.44'028 Embroidery, Machine / Machine embroidery-Manuals [OCLC]
