Wondrausch, a distinguished English potter who is one of the leading practitioners in this specialized ceramic idiom, offers this revised second edition (1st ed., 1986) of her book. She augments this revision with a treasury of information for not only the traditional potter but also the student and collector of slipware and to a lesser extent, tin-glazed maiolica ware. The revision includes many new color plates and black-and-white plates, interspersing the various technical topics with the author's own experiences in slipware pottery, including a historical overview down to the present day. Covering more than English slipware and variations based on it, this historical panorama includes a brief picture of what is happening in England and various countries in Europe that still continue the practice of this particular low-fire pottery medium. The contents, including an introduction, are organized in three parts: part 1: "The Practice"; part 2: "The History"; and part 3: "Business Affairs," which discusses various facets of the economics of this pottery, particularly useful to fledgling, young studio potters just starting out in the field.
