CHOICE Review

A valuable book of 21 chapters contributed by 15 British authors who have extensive experience in the analysis, design, and implementation of industrial digital control systems. The first 15 are main chapters covering the various aspects involved in the design and application of digital control systems ranging from theory to practical considerations; the remaining 6 chapters present case studies illustrating the design approaches, demonstrating the practicality of the ideas covered. Emphasis is on the application of digital control theory to industrial processes, although most of the underlying ideas apply as well to other types of control systems. In covering so many topics in some 400 pages, it is inevitable that the presentation is brief, thus requiring from the reader a good foundation in control systems to grasp the ideas and to use the chapter references, some of which are not readily available. Recommended for upper-division undergraduate and graduate students interested in digital control systems.-M.M.T. Jong, Wichita State University
