CHOICE Review

This book comprehensively reviews the various facets that comprise the complex interrelationship between tourism and air transport. This link yields interesting comparisons, sometimes symbiotic and sometimes not. Tourism is a sprawling, often ill-defined, global system; air transport, also global in scope, tends to be better defined and bound by various treaties and protocols. The authors do a fine job cataloging and defining these blurry and sharp edges and explaining how the two fields interact to create essential global networks. Going "under the hood" of these interrelated systems, they identify and explain the various building blocks that form the completed whole. This definitional work alone is a massive undertaking for one volume, which the authors accomplish successfully, making this a practical, valuable compendium for scholars and practitioners working in both fields. Importantly, the text touches on foundational documents while also considering current and future trends. This "living reference" is a clear, concise, comprehensive resource that organizes a great deal of information with structure and clarity. Summing Up: Recommended. Graduate students, faculty, and professionals. --Stuart A. Schulman, emeritus, CUNY Baruch College
