CHOICE Review

This new edition, the latest in a series of 30 major handbooks from McGraw-Hill, is intended for student engineers involved in the design, production, and operation of electronic devices and systems. The 31 chapters are divided into four major sections: "Principles and Techniques"; "Materials and Hardware"; "Circuits and Functions"; and "Systems and Applications." Written by 119 contributors from industry and academe selected for their expertise in the subject areas, the work contains several useful features. Each chapter ends with extensive bibliographic reference to texts and periodical articles. Material from the three previous editions (1st ed., 1975; 2nd ed., CH, Jun' 82; 3rd ed., 1989, all edited by Donald G. Fink and the present editor) has been condensed for quick access and ease of use. The chapter on US international standards, units, symbols, and definitions has been updated. A new last chapter on useful resources for electronics engineers includes lists of US professional societies and associations, engineering schools, publishers, and Internet Web sites. Very detailed 78 page index. Highly recommended for technical libraries serving undergraduate and graduate engineering students, researchers, and engineering professionals and practitioners. I. L. Kosow; emeritus, City University of New York
