CHOICE Review
Lee's Zen Interiors is a modest, coffee-table book on interior decoration based on Zen principles of serenity, harmony, balance, and simplicity. The square-format book is divided into two basic sections: the first, "Inspiration" (theoretical), seeks to define the elements of Zen; the second, "Applications" (practical), leads the reader to see and plan the use of these principles in home decoration and furnishings. The theoretical and practical themes are enhanced by excellent, full-color, full-page photographs that complement and expand the text. The intent of the book is to introduce ideas that can provide a calming and relaxing environment for the modern home. A 20th-century concept of "less is more" is given an Asian view with the addition of natural materials in addition to steel, glass, and concrete. The book's appeal is primarily to the general reader and home decorator, but the photos provide a wonderful catalog of ideas for professional and student alike. General readers; lower-division undergraduates; professionals; two-year technical program students. D. Ichiyama; Purdue UniversityAuthor notes provided by Syndetics
