Quintets (Topical Term)

Here are entered collections of compositions for five instruments belonging to various families and in various combinations. Collections of compositions not in a specific form or of a specific type for a single combination of five instruments, and individual works, are entered under this heading followed by a parenthetical qualifier with the names of the instruments or the term "unspecified instrument(s)."

Compositions for five bowed stringed instruments are entered under String quintets; for five wind instruments under Wind quintets; for five brass instruments under Brass quintets; for five woodwind instruments under Woodwind quintets; and for five plucked stringed instruments under Plucked instrument quintets.

Compositions for piano, two violins, viola and violoncello are entered under Piano quintets.

Compositions for five percussionists are entered under Percussion ensembles.

Compositions for five solo voices are entered under Sacred vocal quintets or Vocal quintets.
