(Stephen Black is currently an honorary research associate at the University of Technology Sydney. For many years he worked mainly in the field of adult literacy as a teacher, front-line manager and researcher. His research interests have focused on critical, sociocultural studies of the role of language and literacy in the lives of many groups of people, including prisoners, local council workers, adult literacy students, community groups, production workers and, more recently, children in school education.)
